Yep...I'm moving my blog. I was just browsing the web the other day for something a little different, with settings allowing me to post larger images. I just don't know that this blog is doing my images justice. I want everyone to be able to view them just a little larger...to get better perspective and let those images tell the story vividly. And if you are using Bloglines to follow your favourite blogs, you will have noticed how much smaller my images are than other peoples.

Family First

I sooo have not been keeping up with my blogging lately...and I apologize to my readers. We quite literally are just getting rid of an awful flu that has been cycling through our household for the past 2 and a half weeks. This weekend however, we are all feeling much better and it just so happens that I didn't have any shoots scheduled this weekend.

It's not very often that I have an entire weekend off, so I've just been enjoying it with my hubby and the kids. We had a date night on Friday, while the kids stayed with a sitter. We went to see "When in Rome" at the cinema (which I LOVED, but not too sure what he thought...lol) and then out for a late dinner at the Keg. It's nice to spend some time alone without the kids on occasion, as it happens so rarely.

Then yesterday, after we slept in, we had a big breakfast, made crafts, played seamstress (I'll have to take some pics of Kiki in her new dress soon to show you.), went tobogganing at Grandpa McCowan's farm and then home for hot chocolate. For supper we feasted on chili and garlic toast, before our big movie night with the kids..."Stuart Little". :)

Today, we slept in again (YAY!...even though 7:30 is our version sleeping in), had some breakfast, did some more crafts, we're still hanging out in our jammies and playing dolls. :) This afternoon we're going to take the kids skating and just enjoy some more family time. What a FABULOUS weekend.

Anyway, can't make a post without a photo. So, here's one of my family having fun tobogganing yesterday! :)

Happy Birthday My Precious Princess

Wow...her birthday was over a week ago now and I have been so caught up in the craziness of family life, that I totally forgot to blog it...booo....such a terrible Mommy to forget to blog such an important event in my daughter's life. You see...we've been battling a bit of a virus running through our household for the last week and a half, so it's been a bit nuts. Even on her birthday, her brother wasn't feeling well, so I only got to snap a couple of shots. Hopefully we're on the mend now though.

This year Kiki was so excited to be having a birthday...counting sleeps before she would be six years old. Then finally when her birthday arrived, it was like she was glowing with magical pixie dust...floating around as if it was the most important day of her life. And for her, it probably was. :) Every year on her actual birthday, we have a mother-daughter day and I never know what to plan. We always used to take a trip to London to go out for lunch and catch a movie. But, after last year when it stormed on her birthday....well I didn't want her to be disappointed again.

So, this year I booked an appointment at the "Serene and Tranquil Spa" in Clinton for us to go and have a manicure and pedicure (and left my camera at home...crummy...what was I thinking). Kiki loved it, but talked Lindsay's ear off while she painted her nails...lol. It was cute though. Afterward, we went and purchased trinkets for her gift bags for her party. Then we went out for lunch at Bartliff's Bakery...where Kiki ordered her favourite....grilled cheese and hold the fries. Then we came home for a movie (which I'd purchased for her birthday) and popcorn.

She loved it. And I loved it...spending a day with My Precious Princess...focusing solely on her for the entire day. :)

Miss Kayci & family

This past Monday, my sister-in-law Erin and her husband Chris, along with their two daughters Kait and Karly, welcomed a new member to the family...little Miss Kayci Emma. We had a flu bug going through our house when Kayci arrived, so weren't able to meet our new little niece right away.

However, today when my kids were at school and daycare, I slipped over to meet Miss Kayci and have a little visit with the family. Of course, being that it was the first time we met, I had to snap some photos of the new little bundle, her sisters and of course a couple family shots. :)

So, it is my pleasure to introduce to you....(drum roll)....Miss Kayci Emma.

Baby Kingston & Family

I met Danielle last summer, at a wedding I was shooting in Cambridge. I'm not completely sure on the story...but she's a mutual friend of the bride at that wedding (Jennifer & Sean) and of Kate Leppington (Leppington Twins)...and I know she had something to do with getting me that wedding, having seen the Leppington's images previously.

I ran into Danielle again at the Leppington girls' first birthday party back in October, along with her son London. It was great to see her again and snap a few shots of London. Of course, I knew she was expecting her second child, but when she called to ask me to do Kingston's new born shots I was ecstatic! I know that sounds silly to some, but I love it when people I've met come back to me looking for photos...it's something about the comfort level of already having met them. Don't get me wrong though, I love to meet new people too and do their images...but, when it's someone you already have met, it hardly seems like work.

So, Danielle and her family came to visit me from Cambridge last week, to get some shots of the newest member of their family...Kingston...as well as a few family shots. It was great to see her and London again, as well as meet Kingston and her husband Fletcher.

I have to say it...even if it sounds cheesy...but, you guys ROCKED this shoot. I hope you love your images as much as I do...such a gorgeous little family.

The Family

I'm not so sure that London was keen on having his photo taken, but as long as he was playing with Dad...it was okay! :)

Chris & Erin - Expecting #3

Chris and Erin are expecting baby #3 later this month...to join his or her two older sisters. Erin is actually my hubby's sister and I always love doing photos for family. Now, normally, their two girls are soooo camera shy and don't ever seem to want to smile for me. But, this time around it was COMPLETELY different. They were posing and smiling in front of the camera...just loving it.

We look forward to meeting our new niece or nephew in the very near future, as they are expected within the next couple of weeks. I'm sure you'll be seeing some newborn photos of him/her anytime soon. But, for now...here are some photos of their family as they anxiously await their new bundle of joy.

Lubbers Triplets - Sneak Peak

I always try to prepare before every shoot, going through ideas in my head, blog-stalking other photographers, jotting down a shot list and so on. Being that I followed the Leppington Twins (Evie and Liv) throughout their first year, I have had some experience with multiples...and I do recall their newborn shoot...when one cried, the other slept and vice versa.

Well, it was a little like that with the Lubbers triplets today. :) Alex, Darren and Mark are the sweetest little boys, but I'm sure glad there were three of us to juggle the three of them throughout their shoot...lol. No, seriously...they did awesome. It's always been a challenge of mine with newborn shoots, to get baby (or babies in this case) to relax or to go to sleep. So calling out to all you "newborn" photogs out there...if you could give me ANY advice...I'm listening.

The boys did great and it was awesome to get to see how Eric & Kelly are managing...being that their family instantly doubled in size. They seem to have a system down pat though, that really is working for them. It's all about preparedness!...right Eric. :)

Anyway, I couldn't wait to show you a shot from our little newborn shoot today...so, here's one as a sneak peek until I get the rest edited. Thank you to the Lubbers family for welcoming me into your home to capture some new memories for you.

Hank & Christine - Expecting

Christine called me shortly after her brother Daryl and his wife Kirby received their prenatal and newborn shots. I did Christine's extended family shots back in the fall as well, so when she called to ask me to do her prenatal shots, I couldn't wait! It's so nice to be able to get to know and follow a new growing family...from before their babies are even born.

So, after some of my Christmas plans changed, I decided to work on Boxing Day and ventured out to Hank and Christine's near Monkton. I often like to use props when I'm shooting a couple expecting, and even though we did use a few, this couple was so naturally gorgeous and perfect with their poses, that we really didn't need the extras. I could almost feel the excitement that this couple shares, as they expect the arrival of their first child...it was so awesome.

Christine is a stunning mother-to-be and Hank, well you could just see his love for his wife and unborn child in his eyes. I look forward to meeting their new little bundle, once he/she arrives...which should be any day, since their due date was January 1st. ;)

Remijn Family

Back in the fall, I did newborn shots for Graham and Paulien...of their precious little bundle Shiloh. It was then that Paulien booked me to do a session with her family over the Christmas holidays. We had to get these shots done, while everyone was together...some of the family lives in Ontario, while the others in Alberta. So, getting them all together at the same time can't be easy.

So, on Boxing Day, I ventured over to Varna to capture some memories for the Remijn family. It was a perfect day...with a fresh skif of snow, after a recent thaw...just enough to make the fields and trees glitter. Such a great natural backdrop.

It was great to meet all of the members of the Remijn family and I hope you'll enjoy your images for years to come. Here are just a few.

Hart Roots

I was out for a drive today with my husband and children, throughout Huron County, working on a Commercial project that I need to have done for tomorrow. (Nothing like procrastinating.) I thought I'd take them along...the kids in the back watching "Ant Bully" and my hubby driving, so that I could scope out the awesome winter landscape. The project involves shooting images of rural landscape throughout Huron County.

It was a beautiful afternoon and I came across lots of wonderful images, including old bridges...old barns...beautiful snowscapes...and one very familiar location...the one I've posted here.

To most, it probably looks like snow, with a blue sky and trees...yet, to me it means so much more. These two rows of trees used to line a lane way, leading back to an old crooked, falling down house...surrounded by out-buildings that held rabbits, cockatoos, pheasants, a cow for milk and many more animals. In the house were old furnishings, a can of marbles under the kitchen sink and a tiny mouse scurrying across the kitchen floor. Of course, these are MY memories...and I'm not exactly sure how accurate they are, being that I was only about 4-years-old the last time I visited that little farm between Holmesville and Benmiller.

It was my mother's grandparent's farm, on her father's side...the old "Hart" farm. This is where my Grampa Hart grew up, and where my mother and her siblings visited often as young children. I vaguely remember the house, but recall that there were all kinds of animals to see when we did visit.

It's not often that I share personal stories in my blog entries, but when I visited this location today...I was overwhelmed with emotion. My family sat in the truck, while I took a walk along the front property line and just enjoyed a few moments of recollection from my childhood. It's funny how things change with time though. The house was demolished right after my Great-grandfather passed 28 years ago and the property was sold to a gravel company. There's now a gravel pit located just beyond this image...but, it's nice that they have left the familiar lane and front of the property in tact...just so I can enjoy a moment reminiscing.

I hope to visit more meaningful locations within the next couple of years, as I truly love to reminisce. It's just taking the time to get to them and spend a few quiet moments remembering what life is all about and what is important. :)

The Chalmers Family

This is what I love about my job...I love meeting new people and capturing their precious memories...and their lifestyles. When Lynn first contacted me, she was wanting me to do photos of her oldest daughter in her formal gown. But, after a few weeks of corresponding back and forth, it was decided that I take shots of her entire family.

Lynn had discussed details with me ahead of time, but when I arrived at her home in Blyth...I was in for a pleasant surprise. She and Darryl have four gorgeous children, who are all involved in extra-curricular activities...so, that's what we wanted to capture. Their family...their children...doing the things they love to do.

I had so many awesome images to choose from for this post and almost feel guilty leaving out some of the images of the kids...playing drums, sitting with their look-alike dolls and wearing Dad's leather jacket. But, I would have been posting dozens of images, if I didn't limit it...lol. So, here is a small sample of some of my favourites from their lifestyle shoot.

Thank you Darryl and Lynn for welcoming me into your home, to capture some memories of your wonderful family for you. I hope you enjoy them for many years to come.

When I first posted Amy and Joe's e-session, I didn't have the session fully edited. So, thought I'd share just a few more of their images with you.

And, while I'm at it...I'd just like to add that I love to do shoots in the snow. The day I was out with this awesome couple, the setting was perfect. Enough snow to look soft and peaceful, but not so much that we couldn't walk through these beautiful paths in the forest. There were small fluffy flakes of snow floating down like feathers...perfect!

So, if you're looking for family photos, or an engagement shoot or just some shots of you out having fun...why not try a winter background?!

Dare to Dream

Tonight I just want to take a moment to reflect upon the past year, as 2009 was a REALLY big year for me. Not only have I grown as a photographer, but also as a mother, a wife...as a person in general. I've learned a lot this year and I think it's because I encountered a lot of changes over the last 12 months.

I've been doing photography as a side gig for several years now, but in late 2008 I had a few things come about that taunted me to challenge my abilities in the field, and I decided to run with it. I had a co-worker ask me to shoot their wedding, when weddings were not something I'd been focusing on. I met with 7 other fabulous photographers from throughout Southern Ontario, who challenged me to learn new things...even if they don't realize it. :) And, after eight years in a career that I was unhappy with, the opportunity to leave my job jumped right out in front of me.

So, over the last year...I dreamed of great ideas and asked myself a lot of questions. Who do I want to be? Where do I want to go with this? What is my style?...a few of many questions. At the beginning of the year I couldn't answer any of those questions, but now...after a whole year...I have some goals in place.

Who do I want to be? I want to be ME! I just want to live my life and enjoy every moment of it...whether it's shooting my next wedding, waiting for that precious newborn to stop crying to get a peaceful shot, spending quality time with my friends and family and focusing more on my children. Where do I want to go with this? Well, the possibilities are endless and I just want to keep improving and loving what I do. I don't think there's a limit to where I want to go with my photography career. What is my style? My style is me...it's what I like...what catches my eye...it's artistic. I want someone to see my images and know that I was the photographer.

What did I do this year? I revamped my business...with a new name, a new look and the desire to keep on top of the new trends. I developed my website, got into marketing my brand and started shooting weddings. I shot a total of 14 weddings in 2009. I signed up with "The Wedding Ring" to further promote my business. I took a photography correspondence course and attended workshops to improve my shooting and editing skills. It was BUSY!

What are my goals for 2010? Well, in the photography field, I want to continue to improve my skills and refine my style. Back in the fall, I set a goal for myself, that I wanted to shoot 25 weddings in 2010...I have 22 booked, so it's looking good to meet my goal. I also want to work on my newborn shoots...as I find them the most difficult for me. I need to also extend my list of assistants (so if you're looking to assist, give me a shout). I plan to sign up for 2011 WPPI conference in Vegas. I have to NOT feel guilty about charging my clients full price for their sessions and products...yes I feel guilty, I think because it started off as a hobby. I need to concentrate on keeping up with my bookkeeping...YIKES! Wow...I could go on forever.

In my personal life...well, I have a lot to work on there too. I want to be a better wife. I take my husband for granted...A LOT! I was surprised at how much work is involved in having my own business and the poor fella spends hours in front of the tube alone, while I catch up on work (like right now). :( I want to be a better mother...I'm afraid my children will resent me for not spending enough time with them. I don't want to forget to stop and enjoy them while they're little, as I can already see how quickly they're growing up. I want to improve my health...yes, I need to lose weight, but I also want to eat healthier, exercise regularly (apparently spinning around in circles in my office chair does not count...lol) and just take me days to relax.

I don't set resolutions, as I disappoint myself every year. But, I am setting goals to work towards. I may not have reached all of my goals in 2009, but I did come a long way in a year...all because I dared to follow my dreams. For Christmas, my sister got me a gift to hang in my office that says, "Only those who DARE to FAIL GREATLY can ever ACHIEVE GREATLY! - Robert F. Kennedy". And, believe me, I was worried when I quit my job in March, but haven't spent a moment regretting it. You too should Dare to Dream. You never know where it might lead you.

And of course, a photograph to go with such a deep, intense post...my little girl, daring to dream.

Happy Holidays

Well, I trust that everyone is enjoying the holiday season and hopefully all had a fabulous Christmas. I have taken a little time off throughout the holidays, but still shot on Boxing Day and the 27th...keeping busy. I'm back at it today and then off again until January 3rd...to spend some quality time with my husband and children.

Every year we try to get a shot by the Christmas tree, but every year it seems to be a struggle. I always want everyone dressed up and looking their best, but the children seem to think it's torture. I was so frustrated last year when my daughter wouldn't take off her toque. This year however, I told them they could wear whatever they wanted, that I just wanted a family photo in front of the tree....result....ALL SMILES.

And besides...this is who they are...THIS is my family...lol. My daughter dressed as close to Hannah Montana as she can get with her own clothing and "Bob the Builder" (my son with his tongue sticking out) right next to her. After all, this is what Christmas is about...just spending some time with my family and having fun.

We also managed to make some cookies, so that Santa could have a wonderful treat on Christmas eve.

Time for a little piggy-back ride.

And some traditional Finnish breakfast pastries, for Christmas morning brunch. Mmmm! I still love these, even though I have been to Finland in 14 years.

You may also notice that I don't have a tonne of Christmas photos to share. There are two reasons for this...one being that I just bought a new Canon HD Digital video camera in December, so I capture most of our Christmas memories on video and just need to figure out how to edit them on the computer. Second, I wanted to just enjoy my family this year and not be in their faces with the camera throughout all of our festivities.

So, glasses up (Champagne or Sparkling Water)...to a VERY HAPPY 2010. May you find all the happiness your hearts desire and success throughout the year.

Giving Is Awesome Recipient

Okay...so, this has to be one of the hardest decisions that I've had to make in my photography career thus far. I had sooo many deserving nominations for a complimentary photo session. I read all of the nominations over and over and over again. It seems that in our current economy and throughout life's challenges, many people are deserving of something extra this holiday season. So, I would like to thank everyone who nominated someone for the "Giving is Awesome" gift.

However, I had to choose only one entry. The family I finally decided to choose was actually nominated by two different people...and this family's story touched my heart. The family I chose as this year's Jakal "Giving is Awesome" recipient for a custom photography session is the Bost family. I look forward to capturing some special memories for them in the near future and sharing them with you.

Congratulations to the Bost family and a sincere thank you to both Leigha Corbett and Tabatha Simonsen for nominating Hal and Lindsey Bost and their family for this gift. Please take the time to read their story below.

"Darlene I would like to nominate for your "Giving is Awesome" holiday gift, the Bost family.

I have been lucky enough to have known Lindsey for just over two years now. I met her when she started working at E.D.Smith in March 2007. We hit it off right away when we found out about each others love of anything Disney. It was this love that got us talking about Disney World in Florida and how much we loved it there. She told me how she and her family lived so close that they used to go often.

Lindsey and her husband, Hal, lived in Jacksonville, Florida before they decided to move closer to her family in this area. They met and married there. I am sure it was hard for her to make such a big decision to leave his loving family to move here. At the time they moved here they had two young sons, Logan and Kaidin. Part of the deciding to come here was to be closer to her family, but also because Kaidin has a form of dwarfism. That is a pre-existing condition according to insurance companies in the USA. They were unable to afford to pay for any of the medical care he required. From what I understand, that included normal medical care, everything from stitches if he cut himself, to his MMR or anything else that he might require as a child with this syndrome. Hal had a good job working for Publix, a large grocery store chain in Florida, in one of the warehouses doing shipping.

Lindsey and Hal both gave up their jobs and moved in with her family here for a short time while they got settled into the area. Hal applied to be able to work in Ontario, but has been unlucky in getting accepted throughout the process. So, Lindsey is the only income for their family of now five, soon to be six.

Shortly after moving to Seaforth, Lindsey and Hal discovered that they were expecting again. They have a beautiful baby boy they named Jacobi. Lindsey, being the only income in the house, had to return to work after just a few weeks off on maternity leave, following a c-section. She was a trooper through the whole thing. I don't think I could've done what she had to do.

Just this past year, their oldest son, Logan, was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome, which is a form of autism. She cried on my shoulder when she told me. Her son will have difficulty forming relationships even with family, she was told by his doctors. He is obsessive about routine and can't stand to be touched. I was heart broken when she told me he screams when she goes to hug him. He doesn't even like the feeling of clothes on his body and sleeps on a mattress on the floor with nothing else in his room. Right then I thanked God for my healthy family. Lindsey and Hal are such wonderful parents, viewing their family as a blessing, where most people, myself included, just see the challenges they have.

They also had good news this year. Lindsey and Hal were told that Kaidin is developing normally for a child with his type of dwarfism, from his Doctor at Children's Hospital. He is unlikely to develop the leukemia that often goes with his condition.

Hal and Lindsey are expecting again in about February, with their fourth child, a girl this time. They will have a beautiful loving princess I am sure. During their routine ultrasounds, they found that she is also going to be a little person, just like her big brother. "She is a gift from heaven.", Hal told me.

Each time I talk with Lindsey, she is always full of life and happiness. She has a smile that lights up a room! Although, I don't know Hal as well as I know Lindsey, he is such an easy-going, fun, loving guy. Hal is a wonderful stay at home parent, which is one of the hardest jobs in the world. Logan, Kaidin and Jacobi are always full of energy and spirit, as much as all little boys are. They completely drive their parents crazy like all kids do. Lindsey and Hal have such a strong and accepting type of love. They are complete with each other, but still able to be themselves within their relationship. Their love for each other is like you are almost able to see it or touch it in the air around them.

I wanted to nominate the Bost family for some time now, but I was unable to find the words fitting enough to describe such wonderful people. I didn't want to nominate them because of the tough hand they were dealt. As a single income family, it can be tough to make ends meet and yet, I never hear them complain. Their family does have challenges that most would find unbearable and yet, they view it all as a blessing from God; which it is. The whole family makes you smile just seeing them. The Bost family is completely contagious. I can't help but be happy around them and that is why I think they are deserving of your gift.

"Hi Darlene

I would like to nominate a girl I work with. Her name is Lindsey Bost. Now here is her story. Her husband and her moved to Canada from Florida (well, she was originally from Canada) due to health care for their middle son who is a little people. They needed to move back here for him to get the care he needed. Hal isn't working and Lindsey is expecting their fourth child, which is a girl finally, but she just found out she is going to be a little person as well. Lindsey is the kind of girl who would do anything for anyone. Being a young mom of 3 young boys and the 4th on the way, I give her a lot of credit, when two of them are going to be little people and the challenges she is going to have. I know the oldest has (a disorder) as well.

I feel Lindsey and her family would be the perfect family for this gift and the baby is due at the end of January. Lindsey takes one day at a time with her children and would never be able to afford professional photos on her ow. This would be the perfect Christmas gift for her. Family means the world to her.

Amy + Joe = Engaged

I met Amy and Joe a few weeks back to discuss photography details for their wedding. It's always nice to get to know my clients, their likes and dislikes and expectations for the big day. So, I find the more I get to chat with them, the better I understand what they are looking for.

Amy and Joe weren't sure about engagement photos at first, thinking that perhaps a relative could just snap a few for them. So, when they called to book an e-session, I was ecstatic. There's no better way to get to know how a couple is going to photograph on their big day, than to do their engagement photos. Plus, it's an awesome way to get to know them better as people.

When they booked their e-session, I was full of ideas for places for a nice winter shoot, but they had a plan of their own. Amy and Joe decided that they were going to go back to where he popped the big question, to have their engagement photos done. PERFECT!

It was an awesome day...chilly yes...but, the air was calm, there were soft little flakes in the air and the slight blanket of fresh snow just made everything glitter. Beautiful! I haven't fully edited their shoot yet, but wanted to give them a little sneak peek...so, not having fully gone through all of their images, I picked out some great shots to share.

Visit with Santa

Being that today is the first day of winter AND it's only 4 days until Christmas, I thought it fitting to post some images from my second shoot with Santa. This time we had shorter sessions, to visit with Santa...as the wee ones were not able to do the walk with Santa, that we had the week before.

Again, it was great to see the reactions and the way the children interacted with Santa. Some were shy at first, others brought him milk & cookies, and a couple wanted absolutely nothing to do with him. Such great memories for the children's parents to share with them later in life.

We had a lot of families out to this shoot too...19 families in total, so I am only able to post one from each family. Soooo hard to choose just one. Enjoy the magic in these photos and remember the true meaning of Christmas this holiday season.

Mark & Cathy and family

You may recognize this family from some of my blog posts over the last year. I have done a couple shoots for Mark & Cathy's families in the past, but this time around it was a little different. This time one of their youngest twins, Nate, was in a wheelchair. He'd been released from the London Children's Hospital about a week before the shoot, from a case of Guillian Barr Syndrome.

While it was probably a terrifying time in the family's lives, Nate is well on his road to recovery and now he is back to running around and playing with his siblings and friends. I've never seen a family so full of love for one another though. Throughout their shoot, they were joking around and having fun...with lots of laughs. It's so great to see that the strength of love in a family can make all the difference, in a situation like this.

Thank you Mark and Cathy for allowing me to capture these special memories for you to cherish forever. My best wishes to Nate, you and your family throughout the holiday season and in 2010.

Averianna Jane and Family

Daryl and Kirby, and big brother Luca welcomed the newest member of their family...a girl...Averianna Jane, on Sunday, November 22nd. A week later, I had the opportunity to meet this beautiful little girl. Luca is such a big help with Averianna...and just loves her...wanting to kiss, hug and hold here. It's really quite cute! :)

Averianna really wasn't quite sure about the camera, but in the comfort of Mommy's arms she was so relaxed and comfortable. Nice and cozy. So, after a few photos with the family, with Mommy and a little rocking to sleep, we were able to get a few photos of this beautiful little girl on her own too. Such a doll...really!

Little Miss Shiloh

This entry has been a long time coming, just because I wanted Shiloh's parents to be able to look through their images before I posted this sweet little doll in an entry. Shiloh is such a cute little baby, but when I arrived she wasn't so sure about me sticking the camera in her face at first...lol. She was a little camera shy.

But after a little snack and some cuddles from Mommy and Daddy, she relaxed a bit and we were able to get some awesome shots of this precious little girl. Here are just a few of my favourite! :)

Oesch Family

I have to tell a little story about this shoot...because it was somewhat terrifying, but at the same time (looking back on it) quite hilarious. But, before I do...I've know Alicia for quite a few years, from being in high school at the same time and knowing her through friends of friends, etc. We also bump into each other with our families out at social gatherings or swimming at the local indoor pool.

So, the story...Darren and Alicia decided to have their family shoot done at Alicia's parents place, so I got directions and early one foggy, Sunday morning I headed out to their place in the country. I drove up the lane and was so excited by the light fog...it would be such a cool backdrop. I was greeted by a dog running down the lane towards me and thought nothing of it. You see, I read hydro meters one summer as a student and came across plenty of dogs, so I'm really not fearful of them at all.

So, I hopped out of the truck and the dog started to bark. I put my hand out to let it sniff me and all was well...I carried on up to the front door to ring the bell. No one was home and so, I thought I'd just go back to the truck to wait for Darren & Alicia. HOWEVER...when I turned around, I was met with a very uneasy sight. There was the dog...teeth bared and ready to lunge. He was not going to let me off the front porch...AHHH! So, I stood there...and within minutes the Oesch's arrived to save me...lol. AND, as soon as the dog saw them, he relaxed too. WHEW! Alicia couldn't believe that he'd even let me get out of the truck...lol. So, from now on when I arrive at someones house, greeted by a dog...you may need to meet me at the truck to assure my safety...lol.

Sorry Alicia...I had to share. Your dog is absolutely fabulous, but your lucky I didn't have to go home to change my pants...lol! :)

I had a blast with the Oesch family, despite the dog incident. The property was beautiful and their children absolutely gorgeous. Thanks so much for allowing me to share in capturing these wonderful memories for you...and for allowing me to create one of my own that I'll never forget...lol.

McCool Family

A few years back, I played ball with Trish and remember when she had newborn children at home, having to take a brief break from hanging out with me way out in left field. So, when I met the McCool family at a nearby farm, I was shocked at how much her children had grown. I couldn't believe it had been that many years since we'd been on the same team in Auburn.

It's funny how time creeps by so quickly and doing the McCool shoot reminded me just how quickly my own children will grow up. I hope that Rob & Trish will cherish these photographs and remember the precious moments of their growing children.

Giving is Awesome

This year I've decided to take part in "Giving is Awesome", as a way to give back to someone in the community that is in need of a little photography gift this holiday season.

I'm sure you know of someone who's experienced a tragedy...is struggling to make ends meet...is a single parent, working multiple jobs to put food on the table...someone who volunteers their time just to give, even when they are the one who needs a hand. You may know someone who is selfless and giving, despite what may seem like their world is crashing in around them.

YOU know someone...someone who can't afford custom photography, but who would cherish it as a gift this holiday season...and who deserves a year-round reminder of the beauty and love they have in their life. YOU KNOW SOMEONE...I KNOW YOU DO!

I know how much photographs of my family mean to me and I want the opportunity to give the same, to a person that you know deserves it. This year, in the spirit of the season, I will be giving a complimentary session, a disc of full-resolution edited files and a custom slide show on DVD, to someone who is nominated by you...my readers.

RULES:

The person you nominate must be sincerely incapable of purchasing my services. (Someone unable of placing a down payment on the tropical island of their dreams does not qualify.)

McConnell Family

Quite a few years ago, I worked with Natalie's mother at a local credit union as a teller. So, when Deb contacted me to get a gift certificate for her daughter and husband Jason, with the arrival of their first born child...a son, I couldn't wait to meet them. It really was years ago, like probably 8 years ago and I remember Deb talking about her girls, but I'd never met any of them.

So, on a rainy Sunday afternoon, I met Jason, Natalie and baby Ethan at their home in Bayfield for some shots of their family. I have to say...Ethan was an AWESOME baby model...but, when he'd had enough...that was it...lol. But seriously, he was mostly smiles and full of great expressions.

Then when the rain let up, we snuck over to Clan Gregor Square for a few outdoor shots too. Thank you Jason and Natalie...it was great to meet you and Ethan and I know you'll enjoy raising this handsome little man. All the best to you.

Consitt Family

The Consitt family booked me a couple months back to do their extended family shoot at Bannockburn, and wouldn't you know it...I had 4 shoots booked that day and of course,....it rained! So, change of plans and we met at Joanne's place over near Bayfield.

We started their shoot indoors with the kids, in the natural light from the big bay window...but, with 13 people...well, shooting outdoors is always preferable. So, when the rain slowed to a soft drizzle we headed out to grab some great shots while the weather slightly paused.

Thank you to the Consitt family for hanging in there throughout the damp weather and dripping trees. You were great to work with and I hope you'll cherish your images for years to come.

Ryley's First Christmas

You may remember the faces from these images from a blog entry I posted a few weeks ago, after having done a session with Jonathan's side of the family. I have to say, I absolutely love the opportunity to follow a young family, as they grow. So when Rachel asked me to come into their home to do their Christmas photos, I couldn't wait.

Ryley is such a sweetheart and a very happy baby. He was all ready for the camera and dressed to the nines when I arrived for his Christmas shoot. And I have to admit, Bailey (the dog) is also pretty cute...however, I may be a little biased being that I really like his name too ;). Anyway, here are a few of my favourite images, before I head off for a good night's sleep. I need to be well rested, as I get to visit with Ryley again tomorrow for a little shoot...as he has his first encounter with Santa Clause.

Walk with Santa - November 29th

Before I even get started...I know, I know...I just looked at when my last blog entry was and was a little shocked. It's been almost two weeks since I last blogged...YIKES! Sorry to all of you who read faithfully. I don't know whether it's because of the Christmas deadlines I've been trying to meet or whether I'm busy getting all my shopping done, but I don't know where the time has gone. So, those of you waiting to see your images blogged...I have you on my "To Do" list for the very near future.

But for now, I'd like to share some of the images from my "Walk with Santa" sessions from last weekend. I went through my images, picking out my favourites and by the time I was done...well, I had over 50 images that I wanted to post. However, I thought that was a few too many...being that it's almost 2am and I wanted to be in bed hours ago. So, I decided to choose only one or two images from each mini-session to blog.

It's interesting to see children's responses to Santa Clause...some were ecstatic...others a little shy at first and then warming up...and some, absolutely terrified. I guess I never realized that there would be so many different reactions to the jolly old fella dressed in the red suit. You might be able to tell in the images which children reacted in which manners. :)

Thank you to all of the families who participated, to my dear friend Brennan for helping the day to run smoothly with her administrative assistance...and a special thank you to Bill Wilson for his part with the photo shoot as well.

Darryl + Te-Anna = Engaged

I have known Darryl from the time I was a young child. We actually grew up right across the road from each other. Te-Anna on the other hand, I haven't really had the opportunity to get to know well...however, my sister-in-law is a great friend of hers and will be standing up in their wedding as a bridesmaid. So, when Darryl and Te-Anna asked me to do their wedding photos for them, I was honoured.

They decided to have their engagement session done behind the house where Te-Anna grew up...which is really neat all on it's own. But, when we got to the location, I was even more excited...it is beautiful. Unfortunately, it was raining...basically throughout their entire shoot, but we managed to still get in some awesome shots.

Thanks Darryl and Te for asking me to capture your big day. I'm looking forward to it! :)

As I was about to walk my daughter out the lane to the school bus this morning, I told my son to put on his shoes and follow us out. I got to the end of the lane, only to turn around to my 3-year-old boy...green triceratops jammies, big black rubber boots (only one pant leg tucked in and the other out) and a bright yellow hard hat...I began to laugh hysterically. It's these moments that make my life fabulous!

We had a few of these moments yesterday too. You see...I always worry about my children, as kids these days seem to grow up much faster than we did. So, when I was thinking about Christmas the other day, it crossed my mind that my children will not always believe in Santa Clause...which made me a little sad. It was then that I decided that I was going to hire a Santa to do a little photo shoot with my kids. He is a busy fellow...and was only available for a few minutes, so I couldn't open this session up to others, but did find another Santa to do so for others in the upcoming weeks.

Anyway...we're sitting in the truck at the park yesterday, waiting for Santa to arrive...trying to keep the kids clean. :) I suddenly thought to myself, "I wonder if they're expecting Santa to arrive with his reindeer?". So...I decided to tell a small fib :) and explained to my children that one of Santa's reindeer were not feeling well, so he would be driving his green Ford Explorer today. So, we continued to wait.

Suddenly, at the top of her lungs, my daughter yells..."HE'S HERE!"...and flings open the truck door. The look on her face was priceless and I only wish I'd have been ready to capture her initial reaction. Our son on the other hand, still excited I'm sure, remained more calm...lol. You see, even this past summer when we visited Santa's Village in Bracebridge, he wanted nothing to do with Santa. I wasn't sure how he was going to take to Old St. Nick.

Anyway, both kids loved him and we spent half an hour chatting with Santa and capturing some AWESOME memories...holding his hand, decorating the tree, reading "The Night Before Christmas", tugging on his "REAL" beard and playing on the climber. I had wished there had been snow, but at the same time...he and the kids were able to do so much more with the nice weather.

So...today I reflect...upon my children, remembering all the fun we've had together...as my son is yanking on my arm, asking me to come play. I can't say no...so, I'll leave you with a bunch of my favourite shots from yesterday. :)

Norah turned "ONE"!

Norah turned ONE! You may remember a blog entry from back in June, when I first did shots of Norah. Then she wasn't moving too far...but absolutely adorable just the same. This time around Norah was on the move...keeping Mom and Dad busy!

We met at the beach on a cold, drizzly day in October. The wind was blowing and the misty rain was a little crummy...but, Norah didn't even seem to notice! She walked along the snow fences on the beach, watching the geese and pointing at them. After a bit, we decided to try to get out of the relentless mist and headed over to the shelter of the old train station for a few more shots.

Thank you Norah for being so cute and having fun, while I captured moments for Mommy and Daddy to remember your first year! :)

Daryl + Kirby > Expecting

Daryl and Kirby are soon to be parents of their second child. And Luca is going to be a big brother. You may remember the Pol family from their extended shoot from a couple weeks back. I met Daryl and Kirby at their home a couple weeks later for their "tummy" shots.

I had a really hard time just choosing a few of my favourites, as we took so many different shots. We started outside in their backyard before heading indoors as the sunset. Luca wasn't too interested in having his photo taken, but he was entertained by some of my props...like the blocks. :) He is so adorable and I'm sure will make an awesome big brother.

VanBakel Family

When driving up to the location that Tina and Kelly had directed me to for their family shoot, I was in awe. Tall skinny pine trees...the morning sun filtering through...a dusting of frost...and a thin layer of smoke in the air from a nearby wood stove. That moment in itself is one I hope to always remember...very peaceful and warm.

Anyway...now that I've set the mood...and you think I'm strange after reading my description...lol...I then saw Kelly as he waived me over to the cabin. I took a walk through the woods, with Tina & Kelly and their three children and captured memories that I hope they'll cherish forever. The kids had so much fun running and playing. I love watching as children discover something new...their so inquisitive...little sponges. They climbed trees, played king of the castle, ran over bridges...and then a break in the cabin to warm up, before heading out for a few more shots.

Thanks Kelly & Tina for allowing me to spend some time with you and your children, to capture your growing family.

Rob + Meg = Married

Back in the spring, Meghan contacted me looking for a photographer for her wedding day. She didn't want the usual wedding package though, as she really just wanted to spend the day with her husband-to-be, their family and friends...hence, only wanting an hour or so of photos.

I have to admit, I'd never had a wedding request like it before...and I was a little nervous too. I have to be honest...I am always nervous before a wedding. You see, I want everything to be perfect and not miss a thing. I want the couple to be able to look back on their images and remember every moment. So, initially, the thought of attempting to do this in an hour or two worried me just a little.

However, when I got there on Rob & Meg's big day, I instantly realized that this was a couple who is just happy with life. They really just wanted to share their big day with the people the love and care about. They were so relaxed and easy-going, just wanting me to capture what I could...never did I feel like I was trying to rush anything.

Rob & Meg were married at the Knox Church in Bayfield, after which we wandered over to Clan Gregor Square to capture their love, while their guests were entertained by a magic show. Once we got a few shots in, we headed over to the Bayfield Town Hall for a beautiful cocktail reception. Their day truly was beautiful.

Thank you Rob and Meghan for allowing me to capture your wedding memories. Wishing you all the best in your lives together.

Marita's Family

I have gotten to know Marita's family over the past several years and I must say, she has a beautiful family. Marita has three children...Jonathan, Jessica and Evelyn. I know each of them from different paths in life. It's funny how easy connections are made in small communities. I will also be shooting Kevin and Jessica's wedding next summer, so I'll have the opportunity to capture more memories for them still.

We did Marita's family shoot on their farm outside of Seaforth and it was an AWESOME location. It may have been a little chilly, but the kids didn't seem to notice too much. Although they weren't too sure about me sticking the camera in their face at times, overall we had fun with their shoot.

Bennett Family

Lisa contacted me months ago to do their family shoot, wanting to incorporate a warm, natural fall setting. I've always left the location up to my client (for the most part), so when she chose Bannockburn, I knew it would be perfect for what she was looking for.

We had lots of fun with the Jervis family and the boys were a riot. They weren't necessarily so excited about having their photos taken, but were up for an adventure...and by the end of it all, probably a little nap too.

After we did some exploring with the boys, Lisa's sister and significant other (since our shoot...now fiance) and her parents joined us for a few extended family shots as well. It was great to hang out with the Bennett family and capture some great family memories for them.

I am seriously about to go on a Blog Marathon. I can't believe how far behind I've gotten in blogging...just trying to keep up with the editing. It's a busy time of year, as everyone wants their photos so that they can include them in their Christmas cards and make Christmas photo gifts. Johnston Family

I have known the Johnston family for quite a few years now, probably since shortly before their second daughter was born. It really is amazing to see how quickly children grow up. It doesn't seem that long ago that Graham was showing me photographs of his babies and now...well they're not babies anymore!

After running into Graham a few weeks back and chatting about my career as a photographer, he and Heather decided that it was time to get some family photos done. So we got together on a Sunday morning, just outside of Exeter for a fun family shoot. It was then, that they mentioned that they couldn't remember the last time they had family photos done. So...this was a big deal for them...pressure is on...lol. No, but seriously...they are a fantastic and great looking family...so, my job was pretty easy! :)

Miss Ellie

Back in September, I took my children to the Scarecrow Festival in Clinton for a morning out. When we walked through the craft section, my daughter came across a booth of tutus. She immediately wanted one. They were all gorgeous and handcrafted by Andrea Longstaff out of Egmondville. Andrea is an artist and a teacher. You should really check out some of her work...just click on her name above.

Of course, my girly-girl picked the pink one....lol. You may remember it, as I did a little photo shoot with her and her tutu on the train tracks right after...and blogged it of course. I sent some of the photos to Andrea, who also blogged my photo AND promoted my photography business...thanks Andrea!!! Then she decided that she too would like a shoot done of her little girl Ellie.

Well...what a sweetheart. I've met Ellie in the past, as she and my son attended the same child care provider. But I just couldn't believe it...it was FREEZING cold, there may have even been some morning frost still on the ground...and as soon as I raised my camera, she was all SMILES. She is quite the little beauty. :) Here are just a few of my favourites from her shoot.

Pol Family

Kirby called me a while back to book a few shoots of their family...one of her husband, Daryl's side of the family, one prenatal shoot for her and a newborn shoot for when new baby Pol arrives. On Thanksgiving Day, after three other shoots...I had the opportunity to capture some family memories for the Pol extended family.

They had a rockin' location right in their back yard, with an iron bridge over a beautiful river. Everyone was keen on photos, with the exception of little Luca...who was way too busy to be bothered with the camera, but it sure made for some great shots just the same.

It was a pleasure to meet you all...and my apologies for not remembering your names...lol. Like I said when we met, I'm terrible with multiple names and being the fourth shoot of that day...I just wasn't absorbing them. However, it really was great to meet the entire Pol family and enjoy some smiles and laughs with you all.

Taylor Family

I have known the Taylor family since before they were a family. I grew up in the same small town as Laura, and went to secondary school with both Laura and Chris. Laura and I played ball together for years, just as my husband and Chris did...and still do. I worked with Chris at one time doing some woodworking (btw...not my thing...lol) and our paths continue to cross on a regular basis.

I was a guest at their wedding...we had our first born child in the same year. Our oldest children played on the same soccer team this past summer. And we often run into each other at social and community events...or at the doctor's office when we both have sick children. :(

Chris and Laura now have three children...all of whom are adorable. I did their photos on Thanksgiving Day...and as I've mentioned numerous times now...it was FREEZING out that day, especially for little kids. We started at Chris's grandparent's home, moved indoors there and then went back to Chris & Laura's, for both some indoor and outdoor shots. The kids were sooo cold at first, but they seemed to manage okay throughout the shoot.

Thanks to the Taylor family for allowing me to capture your family's memories. I can't believe how much the kids have grown up already and can't wait to see how they'll grow in the future.

Mark + Christine = Engaged

You may recognize Christine from a couple of my blog entries in the past. I first met Chris back in February when I did a shoot with her and three of her closest friends. These girls are great and have a wonderful friendship, getting together with each other every week for an evening. Then I shot Shawn and Lindsay's wedding back at the end of August, in which Christine was one of Lindsay's bridesmaids.

So, when she and Mark came to me a couple months ago to ask me to shoot their wedding, I was ecstatic! It's nice to have clients return time and time again. It's good to know that they are happy with what I am doing for them.

On Thanksgiving Day, I met up with Mark and Christine in Goderich for their engagement shoot. They had a couple of locations in mind...which turned out to be fabulous!!! I have to honestly admit that I love old structures...and we found a few hidden gems as backdrops that we didn't even know where there ;).

This couple is fabulous...from walking trails just relaxing, to greeting a strange dog as it ran up to them, to playful snuggles, piggy-back rides, holding hands and swing rides. It's VERY obvious that these two are in LOVE!!! You can see it in their smiles and in their eyes.

Thanks Mark and Christine, for allowing me to capture some memories for you and I look forward to your wedding day next July.

Will + Alicia = engaged

I met Will and Alicia a few months back when they were looking for a photographer for their wedding day. They wanted autumn engagement photos at Will's father's place out in the country, so a few weeks ago I met them there and fell in love with the property. It is gorgeous and there are so many different spots to shoot.

This October has to be one of the coldest that I've ever experienced and I got together with Will and Alicia at 9am on Thanksgiving Day. Again...a bit chilly and even a little wet from days of precipitation. However, just the same we managed to keep warm and relatively dry, on a day that was supposed to pour rain.

I had so much fun with their engagement shoot. I had all kinds of creative juices flowing with such a great new location, but Alicia and Will also had a list of their wonderful ideas for shots...so I can't take all of the credit for the poses below. :) Thanks Will and Alicia, and I look forward to your big day next July.

Livingstone Family

Ryan and Melissa have been wonderful clients of mine for years now, from the first year I was in business. I have done shoots of their immediate family each year and they have volunteered for several shoots where I required models too. So, when they asked me to do a shoot of Ryan's side of the family, I couldn't wait!

Again...on a very COLD morning in October, we got together with the Livingstone family at a park in Clinton. The light was absolutely gorgeous and the leaves stunning...but, everyone could see their breath every time they exhaled. They stuck it out though. Little Mya and Ty needed to keep their jackets on for most of the shoot, as to not end up with hypothermia...lol. But all in all, they seemed to be okay with the cold.

Thank you to the Livingstone family for allowing me to capture these memories for you, as I know this session had special meaning for you. Wishing you all the best and hoping you'll enjoy these shots for years to come.

Brand Family

Back in October, I got together with the Brand family on a VERY chilly Sunday afternoon. I couldn't believe how cold it was and everyone was freezing. But, we attempted to find a relatively sheltered area in the Exeter park and everyone was a great sport about hanging in there, to get a few shots in.

Jeff and Audrey have two great children...John and Sabrina. John is married to Rachel and their first born, Riley arrived earlier this year. It was great to capture some shot of the extended family, and I have the opportunity to get together with John, Rachel & Riley again this weekend for another family shoot. It even looks like it's going to be a little warmer for us. :)

Cain Turns One!!!

You may remember Cain from a post about 6 months back, when I had the opportunity to capture him on his Baptism day. It was freezing cold outside then and again this time around it was quite chilly too! However, unlike last time, we weren't able to sneak into the barn for shelter, but Cain never even seemed to notice the temperature.

A few weeks ago, I spent some time with Cain on his actual birthday, along with his parents and his mom's side of the family. We were able to capture some great shots in the early sun, before having to head in to warm up. Below are just a few of my favourites!!!

McIver Family

It's always nice to reconnect with old friends...and this shoot was exactly that. I realize that some people detest the idea of Facebook, but while it has been a great means of advertising for my photography business...it has also been fabulous for reconnected with old friends. I have reconnected with friends from elementary school, from my year abroad in Europe and with past co-workers...people all over the world.

That's exactly how Cindy and I were reconnected...through Facebook. Back in the day when I was still in secondary school, I'd moved out with my boyfriend (now my husband) at the age of 19 and was working at Valumart in Clinton part-time to make ends meet. I worked there with Cindy. I knew her boys...but they were very young and Cindy actually left the store to have her third child...her daughter. That was many years ago...so it was AMAZING to see the changes in her family.

I lost touch with Cindy when she moved to the Mitchell area. I know it's not that far away, but our paths just never crossed until recently. I had so much fun spending some time with the James & Cindy and their family a few weeks ago, to catch up a little and take some shots of their wonderful family. Here are just a few of my favourites from their shoot.

Happy Halloween

My little monsters weren't so scary this year, but they sure were scaredy cats...lol. We live out in the country, so we usually only hit about 10 houses on Halloween night with the kids. They load up on candy at each place and we get a brief visit with each of our neighbours...it's about the only day of the year that we get to catch up with everyone. And this year, I had to share our Halloween shopping story with each of them.

You see, my children were not supposed to be a chicken and a "fairy princess ballerina" this year. Nope...I had full intention of dressing them as a Jack'o'lantern and a mermaid. But...our experience shopping for Halloween costumes was not at all what I expected either...lol. A couple weeks ago we went to the store to find costumes, and as we approached the Halloween section...I was suddenly startled by screams of terror and tears of fear. My children became hysterical and ran in the opposite direction.

Okay...so here's my mean-mother streak, I turned toward my children and began to laugh uncontrollably. How terrible is that?!?!? Here they are terrified for their lives, by the horrifying experience of seeing a scary skeleton's red glowing eyes and the arm of a giant inflatable spider reaching out to get them. After laughing, I suddenly realized that it wasn't funny at all. My kids were absolutely terrified. Poor children.

So, back to square one...the little man wore his sister's old chicken costume, while she gathered play clothes from her dress-up chest. And that was that...he was a chicken and she was a "fairy princess ballerina". :) Hope everyone enjoyed their Halloween evening.

Dennis + Yvonne = Engaged

Dennis and Yvonne came to me back in the spring for a wedding consultation. I just figured that since I was doing Dennis's sister's wedding photography this past summer, that was how they came across my name. But, as we chatted about the wedding plans I brought up Michelle and Dustin's names and it came to light that they didn't realize I was also doing their wedding photographs. It was kind of funny...what a coincidence.

Anyway, over the last few months I've gotten to know Yvonne a little through exchanging emails back and forth, discussing wedding plans. So, it was nice to catch up with she and Dennis when we did their engagement shoot earlier in October. I met them at Morrison Dam, just East of Exeter and "WOW" is it ever beautiful in the autumn. The colours were so vibrant and the trails are amazing! It was nice to just walk and chat with them, stopping along the way to capture some images of this gorgeous couple.

Before we were done, we also stopped by the farm where they will live once they're married, to get some shots with their dogs too. The dogs were a little camera shy, but sure had fun running around the farm. It was a perfect day for their engagement shoot and without further delay, here are a few of my favourite!

Carter Family

My blogging is behind yet again. Just when I thought I was getting caught up from my wedding season...then the most popular family photo season hit. I'm not complaining...I'm loving it! Seems this year that everyone wants fall family photos for Christmas cards and gifts. What a wonderful idea!

Anyhow...this blog is long overdue! I met up with the Carter family a few weeks back, at their home just outside of Goderich. They have an amazing property...well landscaped and lots of space for their two children to play. So, it was super fun following the kids around, while they had fun between traditional family shots.

The Wedding Ring - My Review

Last year I had a representative from The Wedding Ring approach me and ask me to become a member of the ring. I was hesitant, as I had only shot one wedding with several others booked, but could see the potential opportunity for advertising to a vast and diverse community of brides (and grooms) through such an organization. I declined initially, wanting to further build my portfolio before advertising.

So this year, when Ashley approached me again...I knew instantly that I wanted to get my name out there for all brides and grooms to see. My review just went up this week and I am ecstatic. I first want to thank all of my brides for their kind words throughout the interview process. As well, my review is posted in the "Huron County" section of the ring, but I want everyone to know that I am willing to travel anywhere to do wedding photography...London, Kitchener, Toronto...New York, California, Florida...Aruba, Jamaica, Cuba...Greece, Italy, France...I know, I know, I'm dreaming a little...lol. But seriously, I'd go anywhere and am always up for new locations! :)

I LOVE what I do!!!

I have my days like anyone else...when I get a little down...when I'm not too sure whether the last shoot I did is the best that I could be...when I worry about my clients being disappointed...when I'm not sure if quitting my career to follow my dreams was the best decision I've ever made...but, at the end of the day I LOVE what I do.

I've been daydreaming while editing lately, thinking about what the images I'm working on are going to mean to my client...now and for years to come. Are they images they'll love and plaster all over their walls for their friends and family to see? Is there one shot they'll put in their Christmas card this year? Will they be filed away in a hope chest for future generations to discover? Of course...I do all of the above with the photographs of my life...perhaps it just comes with my passion for photography...maybe it's because I'm a sentimental sap.

Today I received some marketing materials that I've spent hours working on, for the Huron County Bridal Expo this coming Sunday. When I looked at them, a tear came to my eye...because what I see is sheer beauty. A young woman on her wedding day, nervous with her tummy in knots, as she stands in front of a mirror putting on her earrings before she walks down the aisle. Friends and family gathered to celebrate the love of a beautiful couple. Two lovers embracing, sharing the passion they have for each other on the day they commit to each other for life. AMAZING moments...and I had the honour to capture them. So romantic and sentimental.

I love capturing these important moments for others, whether it be their wedding day...the excitement of expecting a child...the birth of their beautiful baby...a growing family enjoying each others company or playing together...the love. It makes my heart melt just a little, knowing the love that exists between people and what these photographs will mean to them. I also love photographs of my own family...whether they are traditional...goofy...having fun...or even a snuggle as I console one of my children. They mean so much to me.

Last weekend, we celebrated Thanksgiving with my husband's side of the family and it was so nice to have everyone together. The below photograph means a lot to myself, but I'm sure means a lot to my husband, his parents and siblings as well. And someday it will be a memory for my children and their cousins to look back upon as well. So, dig out some old photographs today and remember those moments...or better yet, take some new photos for others to look back upon in the future. :)

Yes...it's true...I love what I do!

Mark + Liz = engaged

I was super excited to do Mark & Liz's engagement shoot...for a few reasons. I worked with Liz for about 4 years and had lots of time to chit chat on night shifts...discussing hopes and dreams, likes and dislikes...and then Mark purposed last December. So, then the late night discussions changed to wedding plans and details. So, it's nice to already have had a head start with this couple, knowing some of their expectations and hopes for the big day.

Then there's the fact that I LOVE Liz's personality...and it's funny, but this just came up the other day. Don't kill me Liz for sharing...but, I love the way she gets excited for Christmas day and gets pumped for birthdays. She's full of life...that's the only way I can think to put it...she just loves the simple joys of life...being back home with her little sister on Christmas morning...going out for dinner on her birthday with Mark. She's sentimental and maybe that's what it is that I love about her...because I am exactly the same way!

I've gotten to know Mark a little over the last few years too, mostly in attending work functions. He's a small-town, Huron County guy and super easy to get along with. He and Liz really compliment each other and make a fabulous couple!

I thought it appropriate to post a few of their engagement photos today, as one year from today is the BIG day and I'm looking forward to it. Thanks Mark & Liz for a fabulous shoot...you both made it so much fun...not to mention you are a photographer's dream...working the camera the way you do! ;) All the best with the rest of your wedding plans.

Remember Her

I don't even know where to start...I'm truly at a loss for words, struggling to make this blog entry sound completely perfect...and I just cannot find the words to express how I feel. I am such an emotional person, but often try to hide it from the world...trying to fool everyone into believing that I am emotionally strong. Yet, I have been pondering over this blog entry for over four days now...not knowing exactly what to say or how to say it.

You may remember a post I made back in May, after having had the opportunity to capture memories for Brad & Crystal Ditner and their children. Crystal had been battling cancer for several months and had finally been feeling well enough to venture out to allow me to capture some very moving images for their family to cherish. I cried the entire time I edited those images, thinking about all that I have to be grateful for in my life...and at the same time praying for the Ditner family.

Today...and for the last four days, I look back on these images and again I cry. On Thursday, October 8th, after almost a year long battle with cancer, Crystal passed away. My deepest sympathies are with the Ditner and Watson families as they grieve their loss and remember the strong, courageous and beautiful woman that Crystal was.

To Brad, Colban and Hannah...she will always be there with you, looking down upon you. My thoughts and prayers are with you today, tomorrow as you say goodbye to your wife, best friend and mother...and for all days to come. She truly was an amazing woman.

I usually end by saying "for today and tomorrow...smile", but today..."Remember Her"!

Lindsay + Shawn = Married

This slide show is WAAAAAY overdue and my apologies for not having it up sooner. Shawn and Lindsay decided to get married in Bingham park in Goderich, outdoors without shelter...even when the forecast called undoubtedly for rain. We managed to get Lindsay's shots in, the ceremony and some family shots, before the storm blew in and poured down rain!

The weather sure didn't change anything about the wedding day though. Shawn & Lindsay celebrated their love with their family and friends just the same. We worked between rain showers, getting both indoor and outdoor shots and you'd never even know that a thunderstorm had ever rolled through.

Finesse the Dress...Fantabulous!

So, you may remember a few weeks back, I posted a casting call looking for some gals to model for free Finesse the Dress sessions. I did this for a couple of reasons...one, because I haven't done many of this type of shoot...and two, because I want everyone else to see how much fun can be had, getting their dress back on for a "fun" shoot. Traditionally, these sessions were called "Trash the Dress", but I've noticed that some people cringe at doing these shoots because they think they have to ruin their dress. This is not the case at all.

Yesterday, I had six fabulous volunteer models come out for some fun in the sun on a nice autumn day...in their wedding gowns. Most of the gals brought their own props...but I had to add in some red balloons to a couple shots ;)....just because I LOVE colour. So, check out their shots and if you're ever interested in booking a "Finesse the Dress" shoot, just give me a shout.

Our Newest Addition

Well, we have a new addition to our family...but, not just one new addition. You see, last autumn, at about this time, we had a kitten dropped off on our doorstep. It didn't really bother us much, as we've had a cat for 10 years and adopted several kittens, whom have since disappeared. But this drop off was different...she LOVED us. I know that sounds silly, but seriously...she'd sit at the door for hours, meowing constantly for attention. Perhaps it's because we fed her right away, or maybe she just really liked our company???

My daughter...4-years-old at the time of the drop-off, decided that this kitten was going to be her new best friend. Within moments of seeing the kitten, she'd named it "Pixie". And well...Pixie has become a part of our family...hanging out on the front porch, following along on family walks and snuggling up for a nice warm cuddle. She's a tiny little thing, but is quite the brute when it comes to defending her territory...chasing other animals away.

Then one day this past summer, Pixie's tummy began to swell. You got it...Pixie was going to be a Mommy. And well, this past Saturday, Pixie gave birth to FIVE adorable little kittens. So, our family grows. However, we've decided that we are going to give the newest additions to our family up for adoption, once they are old enough. So, if you or anyone you know would like to adopt one of these precious little cuddly balls of fur, just give me a shout. They're completely free to good families.

Timbeck Family Fun

I'm freezing and 'yes', I'm complaining about the cold already...lol. I never complain about the heat...I never had time to, with the summer we had. So, I was looking through my images this evening....bundled in a sweater and my huge chicken slippers, sipping on a glass of warm tea...attempting to get caught up and I came across the Timbeck family images. Instantly, looking at the beach, the beautiful weather and the love amongst this family warmed me up a little.

Becky contacted me a while back, after seeing some shots I did for a close friend of hers. She wanted something similar and so, she and her husband Trevor and their two children drove from the London area up to Bayfield, to meet with me for a relaxed little family shoot on the beach! It was perfect...the temperature was perfect, the light was perfect and the kids...well, perfect. They were great and we had so much fun.

Thanks Trevor and Becky for allowing me to capture these wonderful memories of your little ones with you. You have a beautiful family and I hope you'll cherish your images for years to come.

Amazing Grace

Eric and Samantha contacted me back in the spring, as they were expecting and wanting to have prenatal and newborn shots done of their wee "monkey". So, we did their prenatal shots back in July at a local farm and then, this past Thursday I traveled to Woodstock, to their home to meet sweet baby Grace.

At a little over a week old, she was the most content baby I've ever seen. When I arrived she was just finishing feeding, had a quick diaper change and for an hour and a half, Grace just let me take photos. She didn't say a word....seriously. She let us dress her up, and move her around, and squish her into the fetal position...and she didn't fuss once. She even got the hiccups part way through, but still remained content. At one point, she even gave us a little grin.

Congrats Sam and Eric. Grace is absolutely AMAZING! The perfect little "monkey". I wish you all the best with your new baby girl.
